Padel was popularized on British cruise ships in the 1920s. However, it wasn't until the 1970s when padel courts started to appear in Europe. Its origins may be unclear but are thought to have been in Mexico and Spain.

On first glance, the sport is played inside a walled enclosure that appears to be about the same size as a tennis courts. The sport is played by two players who alternate serving the ball and hitting it over the wall using a paddle-like tool. It can be played indoors or outdoors.
