Bocce is a game of rolling and catching balls that can be played by one, two or four players. This is a very popular sport in many countries. It has existed for centuries. Everyone of any age can enjoy this great form of exercise.

Bocce Rules

The game is played in a rectangular court using eight bocceballs and a pallino, a small ball that serves as a target. It is your goal to get your bocce ball closer to the target than your opponent.

Pallino is thrown by the player who represents the team that has the ball. (This player will always be the one to throw it first). After the pallino is tossed, each team takes turns throwing their bocce balls until one of their balls gets closer to the pallino than the opposing team's ball or until all the balls are out of play.

Teams can play as many frames each as there are bocceballs. The last team to score is the winner. Once a frame ends, the other team begins the next frame by throwing their pallino and bocce balls.

The bocceball rules sign is located on the first court, approximately 13 feet apart from the ends of the court. The sign informs teams of the location of foul lines. The foul lines run parallel to the court's center line, giving players 13 feet for bocce ball throwing.


The player is not allowed to throw the ball when their heel crosses the foul-line. A dead ball is declared if a ball hits a wall without having first touched the pallino.

Volo:

A volo is a high-arcing throw of a ball in the air beyond the center line of the court. The purpose of this maneuver is to gain a point advantage for the team that catches it, but it can lead to damage to the balls and other players.

Back Wall

Half-court markers mark the backwall of the bocce courts. They are placed half way between the two backboards. This marker does not affect the score, but rather serves as a reference when players measure their bocceballs and pallino for size, material, and diameter.

If the ball hits the wall, but doesn't hit the pallino (or another bocce), it is declared dead and taken out of play. If the ball still hits the wall, but gets closer to pallino then the opponent's ball, you will be awarded 1 point for every ball closer to pallino.

The team who catches the ball and throws it up in the air can do so until the ball lands closest to pallino. The team with the ball closest to the pallino gets the most points.
