Badminton rules are instructions that describe how to play the sport. To score points players use a shuttlecock which is a high-drag projectile. These rules ensure that badminton is fair for all. The aim of the game is to hit the shuttlecock over the net into the opponent's court.

A point can be won by a player making a mistake when serving or by scoring more points than his opponent. Badminton rules prevent a player intentionally delaying the match. The referee could dock points if a participant breaks any rule. Recurrent fouls could result in forfeiture of the set.

There are three games per match. Each game is worth 21-points. The player who scores 21 or more wins the match. The player leading by two points is the winner of a set.

Before the game starts, players must toss their shuttlecocks to one side of court. Once the toss finishes, the winner picks a side. This is because each side differs. As a rule, even and odd scores play from one side of the court.

Doubles players must wear uniforms that are compatible with each other. The uniform color can be changed at any time.

The game starts with the first person to serve. After the first game is won, the second serve is allowed. After the first game, the players are given two minutes to relax. They can also take a break after the second game.


Badminton matches will be best-of-three sets. The first two matches are played at an even score. The winner team must lead the third match by two points.

The new laws will take effect at the conclusion of the third game if there is a tie. In the past, the winner was the player with 11 points in the opening game. The match was won by the player with 15 points in the second. The second game will be decided by the player with the highest score of 21.

A player must be in good health to participate in badminton. The Badminton World Federation changed its rules in August 2006. The new rules provide a better scoring system and regulate the length of matches. Its purpose? To make the sport more appealing for television audiences.

To begin a badminton match, the players use a stringed racket and a shuttlecock. There are 16 feathers on the shuttlecock. Feathers are meant to help the shuttle bounce properly, and they can be made from natural materials or synthetic material. The shuttlecock should be kept in the center of the rally.
